Volunteer Opportunities

Interested in volunteering? Please email our Volunteer Coordinator, Emily Gray.

Front Ensemble (Ranger Roadies) “Boss”: This person will oversee the loading, moving & unloading all pit equipment. They will also schedule the committee members (8 – 12 parent volunteers) and the truck drivers.

Volunteer Coordinator: This person will oversee the master list of parent volunteers who have been cleared by LISD and are eligible to help with the band organization. They will also be the contact for other Committee Chairmen when they need volunteers for one of their projects/events. Knowledge of Excel is very helpful!

There are also other opportunities to serve on the Committees, but not necessarily “chair” them! The following committees will need LOTS of help:

  • Chaperones (riding on buses with band members)
  • Med Moms (assist the band members with “boo boos”, etc. during Band Camp & band events)
  • Fundraising (various fundraising activities – more details will be available from time to time)
  • Meal Moms (feed the band members before performances)
  • Ranger Roadie (loading, moving & unloading front ensemble equipment for each band performance)

If you are planning to volunteer, please go to the LISD website & register. This needs to be done on a yearly basis.

Please go to the Charms Calendar to sign up for volunteer slots.

Volunteer Registration Process

The district requires that all volunteers submit to a criminal background check. To do so, please visit the LISD Volunteer Services web site and complete the on-line volunteer application process. Applications are good for a year, however, you will not be notified directly when you are cleared. You may contact the volunteer coordinator (see Booster page) if you would like to know your status.

As a non-profit organization, the boosters are required to keep track of volunteer hours for tax purposes. Please keep the volunteer coordinator informed of all of your volunteer time by e-mail each month for the previous month.

Chaperone Assignments

Chaperone assignments will be made for each game and competition individually.  For each football game and competition we have created a volunteer registration page.  Please indicate your availability in Charms by following the instructions below.

The purpose of using Charms this year is to identify who is available by date.  You will receive a separate email for the dates which you are assigned as a chaperone.  Your email confirmations will outline report time, departure time and any additional instructions as appropriate.

Important Note: You must be an approved volunteer through LISD and volunteers are required to re-register every year.  We cannot assign you as a chaperone until we receive confirmation of your approval so please complete this process as soon as you can.  Instructions have been provided below:

Ranger Roadies

The Roadies are a very important piece of the program and you’ll find that you really feel like you’re part of the action.  We’re extremely excited for this year and look forward to working with everyone.  Below are some frequent questions about the Roadies.

What do the Roadies do?

The Roadies are the muscle behind the band.  We load/unload the trailer, move equipment on and off the field, help with building props along with other tasks requested of us.  We assist the band at all performances during the marching season (football games, contests, public performances, etc)

How will needs be communicated?

Weekly emails are sent via the randerroadies@yahoo.com account with what is happening in the next week or so.

Are there any health concerns to being a Roadie?

You need to use your best judgment to determine if you are capable of helping and to what extent.  We have women and men of all ages and strength assisting us.  Some things do require strength but a lot of things just require pushing around.  If you have an ache or a pain, just let us know.

What do we load/move?

Generally, we will load all of the front ensemble equipment, electronics, podiums, props and instrument carts.  Most everything that goes on the trailer gets moved on and off the field.

How many vehicles will be used?

We will use the trailer (the big VR trailer) for most items.  We will also have a box truck (or two) depending on needs.  To drive the trailer, you will need a CDL license.  To drive a box truck, no special license is required.  All drivers must be registered volunteers and additional information is required by the district.  Anyone interested in driving needs to contact Ryan Wood – ryanwood94@yahoo.com.

How do I volunteer to help?

All events will be listed in Charms with a Volunteer Sign Up list.  Communication with links will be sent when an event is loaded.

What are ChapeRoadies?

We often have folks who want to volunteer as a Chaperone and a Roadie.  That’s usually fine.  The Chaperones have specific duties they need to do during the game that may interfere with some Roadie duties.  We will work out the schedule if you are wanting to do both roles.

What are some of the perks of being a Roadie?

  • You will receive free entry to all events (football games and contests) as long as you are signed up to work that event.
  • We will provide you with water and/or Gatorade at each event.  If the kids are being fed, Roadies who are signed up for the event have the option of getting a meal as well.
  • You will have a unique perspective of the show and work closely with the kids and directors.
  • You will feel like you are personally contributing to the success of the program.
  • The Roadies have a lot of fun.  We are a great group of parents and really enjoy the time we spend with each other.
