As an educator, Mr. Tharp completed his student teaching in Leander ISD under the mentorship of Mr. Mike Howard (Vandegrift HS) and Mr. Christopher Yee (Four Points MS). Before joining the Vista Ridge team, he coordinated and instructed a 40- member low brass studio located in Austin, TX. He also maintained a small studio while completing his undergraduate degree, was a sectional coach for the inaugural season of the Lubbock Youth Wind Ensemble, and led master classes throughout Lubbock public schools.

As a performer, Mr. Tharp has experience in both concert and marching capacities. He was a member of the Symphonic Wind Ensemble under the direction of Dr. Sarah McKoin, a member of the TTU Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble, a soloist with the Texas Tech University Orchestra, a guest soloist with the Southwest Symphony of New Mexico, and a finalist in the university-wide concerto competition. He also competed in the Music Teacher’s National Association young artist competition; he won honorable mention and runner-up in 2013 and 2014, respectively. Alongside the concert setting, Mr. Tharp has Drum Corps experience as a marching member of The Cavaliers (2011) and the overseas-touring Blue Devils International (2015).

In his free time, Mr. Tharp enjoys cook ing, Chipotle, craft coffee, concerts, and alliteration. He is ecstatic to begin teaching with the outstanding staff of the VRHS band, and to work for the families and students that give the program its name!
