Mr. Straight is currently in the midst of his first year as Associate Director of Bands at VRHS. During the 2006-2007 school year he was an ESL teacher in Kralupy nad Vltavou, Czech Republic.
Mr. Straight graduated from Coppell High School in 2001. He attended Abilene Christian University where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and a minor in English. Mr. Straight is a trombonist and has studied under Jon Bohls, John Kitzman, Don Lucas, and Natalie Steele. He has also studied conducting with Dr. J. Eric Wilson.
At Abilene Christian University Mr. Straight performed with the Big Purple Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble, the Jazz Band, and was a founding member of the Burford Brass Quintet. During his college career, he performed in five Homecoming Musicals and co-conducted Seussical!
Mr. Straight was recently married to the love of his life, the lovely Elanor Straight. They have a beautiful white German shepherd named Bronte.
In his spare time, Mr. Straight enjoys spending time with his wife, reading, hiking, ballroom dancing, and preparing for the next marathon.
Mr. Straight is a member of the Texas Music Educator's Association as well as the Texas Bandmaster's Association.
